As an avid runner, ICU travel nurse, Zac Shepherd, shared a hidden gem that he discovered while on assigment in Seattle.

Seattle’s hills can be humbling, but they’re also part of what makes running here so rewarding. The city offers an impressive mix of waterfront paths, urban trails, and large parks, giving runners plenty of variety without leaving town.

The Burke-Gilman Trail is a local favorite, connecting neighborhoods and green spaces across much of the city. Discovery Park offers dirt trails and views of Puget Sound, while Green Lake remains a go-to spot for everything from easy miles to speed workouts. Seward Park’s loop is another popular choice, combining lake views with a surprisingly peaceful, forested setting. For runners looking to escape the city’s bustle without leaving Seattle, Ravenna Park is another hidden gem. “The trail drops you into a wooded ravine with dirt paths, bridges and creek views that definitely make it feel more like trail miles than road miles,” says Zac Shepherd. “It’s great for an easy 2 to 4 miles, a shakeout or hill repeats.”
