She’s pushed back break times to ensure her patients are okay. I’ve seen her pull out her ponytail to put up her patient’s hair because they were in custody and could not do so themselves. She even gets the pediatric patients toys or blows up a glove and draws a face on it if she has to. She’s kind. She’s personable. She’s compassionate. She’s so patient. If I or my family ever got sick, I would want her as my nurse!”

A DAISY Award nomination was given to Terressa

A patient nominated Terressa for a DAISY Award for going above and beyond the call of duty.

The patient wrote, “I recently had a painful procedure that left me with an even more painful open wound on the back of my leg. The dressing needed to be changed daily, but because of the position, I couldn’t change the dressing myself, and Home Health only came every other day. I recently lost my husband, and I had no family to help me. Out of the goodness of her heart, Terressa came to my home and changed the dressing. She did this not as an employee but as a decent human being. This woman took time out of her life to use her skill and knowledge to help someone who desperately needed it. If it were not for her diligence and compassion, my healing could have been very different. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness.”

Terressa’s recruiter also mentioned she’s always getting nominated and is a real hero for her patients.

Essence receives two DAISY Award nominations

Essence received not one but two DAISY Award nominations from patients in her care.

One patient wrote, “It takes a great nurse to turn your pain into a smile. A nurse who is so considerate and truly makes sure her patients are doing great. I truly appreciated Essence pouring her heart into her career. Essence is a nurse who does her job because she has a heart for it, and you can feel it through the way she takes care of you. Nurses like her are hard to come by, and I want to take the time to thank her. Thank you, Essence for making my stay so much better, and thanks for being such a great nurse!”

Another patient said, “I want to thank Essence! She showed me the most amazing comfort and care! Essence assured me that everything would be all right during my procedure, and she was correct. She made me very comfortable, had me laughing and told me amazing stories. She also gave me some encouraging words for starting my catering business. I am grateful for her kind words! Thank you!”

Peggy is nominated for a DAISY Award

A patient nominated Peggy for a DAISY Award for her kindness and top-notch problem-solving during a difficult blood draw.

The patient wrote, “After multiple painful attempts to draw blood for a PT/INR by numerous phlebotomists, I begged my nurse, Peggy, for another solution. My veins were shot, my arms were bruised, my morale was broken and no one could draw more blood. My surgeon had mentioned a PT/INR monitor in the emergency department, and I asked Peggy if it could be used for me. She went above and beyond to get permission to bring the machine to my room for a finger stick instead of a blood draw. It took perseverance, persuasion, advocacy for her patient and good problem-solving skills. She is my hero and is fully deserving of recognition for this effort.”

Elizabeth won the Traveler of the Month Award at her facility.

Her facility wrote, “Elizabeth always goes above and beyond for her patients and peers. She recently took a patient to the hospital store so they could grab their favorite snacks! She demonstrates our ‘we-instead-of-me’ culture each day she works. When the unit needed to move multiple patients to accommodate construction changes, Liz willingly jumped in to help get the job done. She is an outstanding team player, and we are thankful to have her working with us!”

Brittany receives a DAISY Award nomination

A fellow RN nominated Brittany Reiner for a DAISY Award for her quick action and dedication to patient safety in an emergency.

The fellow RN wrote, “Brittany was working a shift on a medical step-down unit when a fire alarm in a patient’s bathroom activated the sprinkler system. Brittany moved quickly to assist the patient to a wheelchair and get them away from the hazard. She did not hesitate to run through the flooding hallway to another patient’s room and get that patient to safety as well. She showed heroism and compassion for her patients. Without her quick action, both patients would have been covered in fire retardant from the sprinkler system and could have had further issues. Brittany never fails to show dedication and compassion for all her patients. She never hesitates to do the right thing in any circumstance. She is an exceptional nurse that her peers appreciate and admire.”

Catherine is nominated for a DAISY Award

A patient nominated Catherine for a DAISY Award for her creative thinking in making their hospital stay more comfortable.

“I want to give a special thanks to Catherine. I enjoyed her care and attention. It was early Thanksgiving morning around 2:00 a.m. and I wanted to take a hot shower but I couldn’t because of the heart monitor electrodes attached to my chest. Catherine helped set up a nice wash from the bathroom sink instead. She filled a container with soap and warm water, set out washcloths and towels and even brought out the shower chair, covering it in towels so I could sit comfortably. It was like a bath, body, and beyond experience, but in a hospital. Catherine went above and beyond to connect with me. She listened, planned and resolved my concerns. Catherine, thank you so much for being such a great, loving and caring nurse.”

The colleague said, “Terrance deserves recognition for going above and beyond. During a code blue on Sunday night, Terrance was right there the entire time. He even helped me provide postmortem care and passed out my morning medications while I completed the death report and made the required phone calls. He did not leave the building until I was done with everything. I truly wish I could do something to repay Terrance for all his help these last two nights. I can definitely say Terrance is a team player.”
