The coworker wrote, “Breanna took time during her shift to get a long-term patient’s clothes washed. This patient is in an acute care unit, and has regular clothes to wear, but they were all dirty. Breanna took time to get washing powders and wash the patient’s clothes on shift. She goes the extra mile with all of her patients and steps it up even more when she sees a need that is basic to most, but unusual in an acute care setting.”

Elizabeth was nominated for a DAISY Award for going the extra mile for her patients and providing comforting care.

The nomination states, “I have worked several contracts with Elizabeth, and she always goes above and beyond for her patients. Recently, Elizabeth, who is Nigerian, was caring for a Nigerian patient. The patient would not eat the hospital food, so Elizabeth went home and made her a traditional Nigerian okra stew and fufu. The next day she warmed it up for the patient and her parents, and they all ate their fill! Elizabeth provided excellent, culturally competent care and provided a special comfort for her patient and family!”

One nomination stated, “Kenzie is one of the hardest working nurses I have seen in my time. She goes out of her way to sit at a patient’s bedside and hold their hand in times of stress and uncertainty. She is the biggest advocate for her patients and even her coworkers; she is very helpful no matter what else she has going on. It is an honor to work with such an amazing nurse.”

Another nomination said, “From the first moment I arrived on the floor, Kenzie advocated for me. She has an amazing personality and makes being confined to a bed a little more bearable. I am super appreciative to her for making my experience better.”

The patient wrote, “I was hospitalized after traveling from Kansas to North Carolina for a funeral. Dillon was outstanding. I was in the hospital for five days, and thankfully Dillon was with me for three of those days. He talked to me like one human to another, he checked on me many times and made sure I had everything I needed. I found out we both have/had cancer and talked about our shared experiences. At one point, he pulled up a chair and talked to me. I shared my reason for being in North Carolina with him (a passing in my family). He listened with compassion and made me feel heard. Dillon is a wonderful young man and a gifted nurse.”
